UK-based food manufacturer Samworth Brothers is in consultation with staff about the potential closure of its Revolution Kitchen business in Leicestershire.

The move could reportedly put hundreds of jobs at risk, although Samworth Brothers did not confirm the numbers when contacted by Just Food.

However, a spokesperson for Samworth Brothers said in a statement: "No decisions have been made as yet. In the event of a closure, it is hoped there will be opportunities for a good number of individuals to redeploy to one of our many other sites in the Leicestershire area.”

The production site is on Pate Road, in Melton Mowbray in the East Midlands region of England.

Revolution Kitchen also makes private-label products including the Wicked Kitchen range for Tesco. The Wicked Kitchen portfolio features plant-based frozen ready meals, pizzas, ice cream, meat and fish.

Samworth Brothers operates across food-to-go, savoury pastries and cooked meals, as well as in the plant-based space.

Another UK-headquartered plant-based company, Plant & Bean, called in administrators last month. Administrators Interpath Advisory are exploring options for the business.

VFC Foods, meanwhile, acquired The Meatless Farm Co. brand in June after the company itself went into administration.

A spokesperson for VFC Foods confirmed the deal only includes the brand and inventory.

Over in the US, loss-making US plant-based food business Tattooed Chef announced earlier in July it was seeking a buyer after failing to raise funds to secure its future.
