Saudi Arabia meat group Tanmiah outlines APAC halal deal

Tanmiah said the agreement will enable it to “establish a direct presence” in Malaysia and expand exports across the wider APAC region.

Saudi Arabia poultry company Tanmiah Food has signed a halal partnership agreement with Malaysian food and palm oil business Tradewinds.

The memorandum of understanding will see the two companies cooperate on halal protein production, processing and distribution.

In a statement, Tanmiah said the agreement, signed at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase, will enable it to “establish a direct presence” in Malaysia and expand exports across the wider APAC region.

Zulfiqar Hamadani, the Tanmiah group CEO, described Malaysia as “one of the most respected halal markets in the world and a natural gateway to the wider Asia-Pacific region”.

“This ambition also directly supports Vision 2030's goals of growing Saudi non-oil exports and establishing the Kingdom as a leading exporter of high-value halal food products,” Hamadani added.

Under the framework, the two companies will explore exporting Saudi-produced chicken products to Malaysia and evaluate joint investment in a Malaysian processing facility.

Tanmiah said the parties also plan to leverage opportunities in Malaysia as a regional production hub and assess future investments across the poultry value chain, including farming, hatcheries, and processing operations.

Additionally, the two groups intend to develop a “global halal, sustainable, and healthy protein brand”, supported by dual halal certification.

Dennis Foo, the CEO of Tradewinds, added the alliance “brings together two organisations with complementary strengths” and “we see significant potential to create new opportunities in halal food production, processing and exports”.

Currently, Tanmiah operates across Saudi Arabia, and several Middle Eastern markets, including the UAE, Bahrain and Oman.

It manages end-to-end poultry operations across 163 farms, seven hatcheries, six feed mills, and four processing plants, as well as distribution networks.

In the first half of 2026, Tanmiah generated revenue of SR1.52bn ($357.4m), a 14.6% increase year-on-year, while EBITDA rose 16.5% to SR204.2m.

Net profit attributable to shareholders stood at SR17.8m, down 8% from the prior-year period, impacted by higher financing costs and expansion-related depreciation.

Tanmiah’s agribusiness division, which includes fresh poultry, animal feed, and health products, remained its core revenue driver, accounting for roughly 92% of total group turnover in the first half.

In November, Tanmiah partnered with venture-capital firm Big Idea Ventures to explore acquiring equity stakes in US red-meat producers as part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 initiative.

CEO Hamadani said at the time that the "partnership will enable access to new sources of capital, as well as multiple M&A opportunities in the USA market", adding: "Together, we aim to build a stronger red-meat value chain, accelerate sustainable feed alternatives, and unlock long-term investment that supports Tanmiah's strategic goals."

Tanmiah also signed a halal agreement in Brazil in 2024 with Vibra Agroindustrial to assess “potential investment and strategic collaboration”.
