US contract food manufacturer Roskam Foods is shutting its cereal and granola production facility in California.
The company said the closure of the site in San Dimas is part of a “broader network optimisation strategy” to centralise its manufacturing of cereal and granola at its facility in Grand Rapids in Michigan.
In a statement, Roskam said the Grand Rapids factory was “best positioned” for ingredient sourcing and automation.
Bringing production together at the site will also improve customer service, speed up time to market and strengthen quality control, it added.
Roskam Foods CEO Andre LeBron said: “Centralising cereal and granola production at Grand Rapids is an investment in the future of the category and in our customers.
“It positions us to deliver greater efficiency, faster innovation, and the consistent quality our customers count on.”
The changes are expected to be completed by 1 October.
The statement gave no details on the number of employees affected by the closure.
The San Dimas site became part of Roskam’s portfolio through its 2023 acquisition of Organic Milling.
Production and scheduling have already been moved to Grand Rapids, with the company saying there will be “no interruption” to supply.
Roskam chief commercial officer Zach Malin said: “Our customers count on us for consistency, speed, and quality, and this consolidation delivers on all three.
“By centralising cereal and granola production and investing in it, we're building the capacity to innovate faster and grow alongside the brands we serve.”
Founded in 1923, Roskam supplies food brands, retailers and foodservice providers with baked snacks, cereals, frozen entrees, and refrigerated and shelf-stable products. The company operates facilities in the US and Canada.
