US retail giant Wal-Mart is reportedly planning to buy just one of the two Brazilian supermarket chains being sold by Dutch retail giant Ahold.

Wal-Mart has decided to buy Ahold’s Bompreco supermarket chain, but not its smaller G Barbosa chain, Reuters reported, citing local media.

If Wal-Mart does buy the 119-store Bompreco it would become Brazil’s third-largest supermarket retailer. Wal-Mart currently holds the sixth position in the Brazilian retail market.

Analysts have estimated that Bompreco could be sold for about US$370m.
