The company has failed to submit yearly reports into emissions for one of its factories due 30 March, and a number of CO2 allowances due 30 April – in the first year it has been required to do so by the EU European Emissions Trading Scheme.


A spokesperson for the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) confirmed that the Mars Inc subsidiary could face a fine of EUR40 (US$51.3) for each metric ton of CO2 not covered by a CO2 allowance.


Steel company Alphasteel also missed the two deadlines, while the MOD and Scandstick UK failed to submit its emissions report only.
