Denmark’s largest pork exporter Danish Crown said Monday it had suspended the top two managers of its Japanese subsidiary.

Japanese police are investigating Junichi Kitagawa, manager of ESS-Food Japan, and his deputy Takeshi Fujita, for not having paid DKK50m in connection with the import of Danish pork meat to Japan, reported the Associated Press Newswire.

Danish Crown spokeswoman Anne Villemoes told AP: “They are being accused of not sticking to the law, the accusations are made against the two employees, not the company. It is our credibility that is at stake. Japan is a big market for us.”

Danish Crown was not available for further comment when contacted by just-food.
