The Tastykake brand is as much a Philadelphia tradition as its culinary counterparts — the soft pretzel and cheesesteak. So it is no surprise that the company chose a Philadelphia location to open its first outlet store in the Grant Plaza II Shopping Center in the Northeast section of the city.
Beginning September 20, Tasty Baking Company (NYSE: TBC), will open its first “Tastykake Thrift Outlet” to the public. The 1,400-square-foot facility will feature a wide range of Tastykake favorites such as Butterscotch Krimpets, Chocolate Cupcakes and Kandykakes in individual and Family Pack varieties, as well as the company’s popular large cakes and pies called “Classic Baked Goods.” The products will be offered at discounts of between 40 to 75 percent, according to Carl S. Watts, chairman, president and CEO of Tasty Baking Company.

“We believe our new thrift outlet will appeal to customers who enjoy bargain shopping as well as benefit from the reduced pricing,” Watts said.
The company will also sell a variety of Tastykake premium items such as tee-shirts, mugs, gift tins and nostalgia premiums, including the original Tasty delivery truck bank and plates featuring copies of old advertising slogans.
The Thrift Outlet is located in Grant Plaza II, on Grant Avenue, near Bustleton, in the Northeast section of Philadelphia. Grant Plaza II is the home of the United Artists Movie Theatre as well as Blockbuster Video, Pizzeria Uno Restaurant and Bar, and Perkins Family Restaurant and Bakery. “Grant Plaza offers a nice mix of stores for bargain shoppers and a place where customers can get great value on delicious Tastykake products,” according to Dan Nagle, vice president of route sales and food service.
The store will officially open on September 23, with a grand opening event including; entertainment, giveaways including free Butterscotch Krimpets and Kandykakes, as well as Tastykake novelty items, a visit by the company’s mascot, Kirbee the Krimpet, and a special appearance of the authentic Tastykake antique delivery truck. Store hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
