National Foods, which is owned by Philippines conglomerate San Miguel Corp., has promoted Joy Linton to the role. Linton, who joined National Foods in 1996, will replace Manny Erana on 1 November.

Erana left San Miguel to take the CFO job on a temporary basis in April after Neil Kearney left National Foods to join Australian dairy company Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory Co as chief executive.

Erana is set to return to San Miguel to work on a number of “key strategic projects”, National Foods said.

“It was a deliberate transition,” a National Foods spokesman told just-food today (4 October) from Melbourne. “It was an interim position to give us six to nine months to find the right candidate.”

The future of National Foods is the subject of some speculation with San Miguel in talks over the possible sale of a stake in the company to Japan’s Kirin Holdings.

The National Foods spokesman refused to be drawn on the situation and confirmed only that San Miguel and Kirin remained in discussions.
