The ground beef products being recalled are 10lb plastic bags of “GRILL MEAT PRODUCTS GROUND BEEF”, and 15lb boxes of “GRILL MEAT PRODUCTS GROUND BEEF PATTIES”. Each package bears the establishment number “10300” inside the USDA seal of inspection.

The ground beef was produced on 24 April, and distributed to bars, restaurants and taverns in Wayne County, Michigan. The problem was discovered through routine FSIS microbiological sampling.

“Because of the potential hazard of foodborne illness from consumption of meat products contaminated with E coli O157:H7, we want consumers to be aware of the recall,” said William Hudnall, acting FSIS administrator. “Diners may wish to ask if meals made with ground beef contain the recalled product.”

E coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhoea and dehydration. The very young, the elderly, and persons with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to food borne illness.
