Major Brazilian meat processor JBS has appointed José Augusto de Carvalho Jr as president of its operations in South America outside its domestic market.

As of yesterday (7 December), Carvalho will lead JBS Mercosul, the company’s arm in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Carvalho has been with JBS for six years and until the new appointment was president of the Mexican arm of the company’s US poultry processor Pilgrim’s Pride. Before he joined JBS he had a 15-year career in the petrochemical and steel industries.

As president of Mercosul operations, Carvalho will also be responsible for the beef, leather, new businesses, special projects and cost/targets management divisions in Brazil.

JBS said: “The new presidency represents another important step in JBS’ ongoing process of professionalisation and will open a new opportunity for the company to continue with its goal to obtain synergy gains and increase its efficiency, thus presenting better results for its shareholders.”
