US supermarket retailer Hy-Vee is offering consumers the option of purchasing irradiated fresh ground beef at its stores.
The company, which operates 188 stores in seven states, is selling the irradiated beef because it believes it to be a safe alternative following recent food safety concerns over contaminated meat.
The irradiation process is believed to help eliminate harmful bacteria such as E. coli, listeria, and salmonella.
