The ice cream, which contains 280–360 calories per tub, is available nationwide in Tesco supermarkets and will arrive in Tesco Express outlets from 16 January. Halo Top will also be available later this month from online retailer Ocado and in Whole Foods Market stores in the UK.

Founder and chief executive Justin Woolverton said of the launch: “It’s really a dream come true to introduce Halo Top to the UK. We experienced some unimaginable success last year with the support of our fans and we are thrilled at the chance to share Halo Top with UK consumers.”

In October, Unilever reported falling underlying volumes from its refreshment division, from where it runs its ice cream and beverage interests, and admitted Halo Top had impacted its sales in North America.

“The battle with Halo Top in North America, that proposition has built a 5% share position very, very quickly,” Unilever’s chief financial office Graeme Pitkethly said in October. “It’s taken 1.5 share points from us.”
