Hearthside Food Solutions, an investor-backed contract manufacturer in the US, plans to add a new production line for crackers at a facility in Indiana.

The baked goods, ready-meals and nutrition snack bar co-packer headquartered in Illinois will invest US$13.6m in the site in Michigan City to install a processing, oven and new packaging line. The project will create 50 jobs, according to a statement from the Economic Development Corporation Michigan City (EDCMC).

“Our team is ready to build on, and accelerate the momentum we have put into place over the years in Michigan City,” said Bob Wojcik, Hearthside’s Michigan City plant manager. “Our production line allows us to position our company in an even stronger spot within our industry while providing new jobs for Michigan City community members.”

Hearthside was acquired in 2018 by private-equity firms Charlesbank Capital Partners and Partners Group from Goldman Sachs and Vestar Capital Partners for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2009, the company runs 38 production facilities, including three in Europe, and snapped up the US operations of Irish convenience food group Greencore two years ago.

The business also produces frozen and fresh foods and cereals, and is a co-packer “for many of the world’s premier brands”.

“Hearthside has continued to build on its base here in Michigan City as well as evolve to meet industry needs and flourish as a food contract manufacturer,” said Clarence Hulse, an executive director at EDCMC.
