Food and beverage giant PepsiCo has announced the ten entrants to the second edition of its North America Greenhouse programme, with the plant-based category dominating the line-up.

Each of the start-ups will receive a US$20,000 grant to help accelerate their growth and will have access to mentoring from experienced food industry professionals over the course of the six-month programme.

The participants include Beauty Gourmet; Love Corn; MudLrk Snacks; Numilk; Nuttee Bean Co.; Shindig; Siren Snacks; Spudsy; Superfrau; and Synapse.

The winner will receive an additional $100,000 in funding based on the company’s “progress, level of collaboration and partnership with the PepsiCo mentors, and the effective use of the initial $20,000 grant”, according to a statement from PepsiCo. And the opportunity is there for the winner to continue partnering with the US firm to foster further growth.

Looking into the categories, Beauty Gourmet makes wellness foods and beverages, while Love Corn produces plant-based corn snacks that are vegan and gluten-free. MudLrk Snacks is another plant-based start-up, with whole food snacks, and Numilk is a little different as it supplies machinery to enable retailers to make their own plant-based milk. Nuttee Bean manufactures fava bean snacks that are vegan and gluten-free.

Shindig makes all-natural juices while Siren Snacks produces plant-based superfood snacks. Spudsy is a vegan and gluten-free potato puffs start-up and Superfrau produces sports drinks. Finally, Synapse offers a plant-based alternative to energy drinks.
