With effect from 1 January the responsibility for selling and marketing vanillin, yeast and special oil products has been brought together under one new business area. Borregaard Ingredients is designed to provide Borregaard with better opportunities for breaking into exciting, growing markets.

"This is a natural continuation of the cooperation that has been growing stronger during the last three years. Vanillin, yeast and omega-3 are being sold in the same markets, often to the same customers," says Director Bjørn Erik Amundsen, who has been given responsibility for the new unit.

Exploiting strengths

Mr. Amundsen says that they have already seen the beneficial effects of this cooperation.
"The purpose of bringing the units together under the same business unit is to strengthen this cooperation, to talk to each other more and to exploit each other’s strengths. We know that it takes time to build up a new business unit, but colleagues can help each other in the markets by exploiting each other’s contact networks. This will save us a lot of time when dealing with existing customers," emphasises Mr. Amundsen.

The new business unit has customers in more than 60 countries. Many of the markets are the same, and of these the USA is the most important.

Good products in demanding markets
The Ingredients Director points out: "We believe that the ingredients market will undergo a good, healthy development, and we are well positioned with our products. Consumers want to have fewer synthetic additives in their food, and we have good answers in the form of our natural omega-3 fatty acids, as well as wood-based vanillin and yeast products."
He points out that the new business unit does not compete with other Orkla activities.
"However, we are already cooperating with several Orkla companies," says Bjørn Erik Amundsen.
