Notably, the number of big data-related patent applications in the consumer industry was 92 in Q3 2023, versus 262 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 60% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Intel filed the most big data patents within the consumer industry in Q3 2023. The company filed 32 big data-related patents in the quarter, compared with 96 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Vivo Communication Technology with 10 big data patent filings, Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications (7 filings), and ZTE (3 filings) in Q3 2023.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 64% share of total patent filings
The largest share of big data related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 64%, followed by China (10%) and Australia (1%). The share represented by the US was 26% higher than the 39% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
