Using Biochip Array Technology to Detect Nitrofuran Metabolites

By Randox Food Diagnostics
From a single sample, biochip array technology (BAT) can simultaneously determine multiple analytes. The technology works by multiple immunoassays taking place at the same time in discrete test sites on the biochip surface. This significantly increases the output of test results. Nitrofurans are broad spectrum antibiotics and used for livestock, aquaculture and apiculture in the prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of bacterial and protozoan infections. As a consequence of the concerns about the carcinogenicity of nitrofuran drug residues in edible tissues with a risk to human health, furaltadone, nitrofurantoin, nitrofurazone, and furazolidone are banned from use in food animal production in the EU.
