Italy-based gluten-free pasta manufacturer Andriani has outlined plans to set up its first production facility in North America,

Andriani is to invest C$33.6m ($24.9m) in the site, which will be located in Ontario in Canada.

According to a statement from the Ontario provincial government, the move will create 42 jobs in the city of London.

The pasta maker’s new 61,225-square-foot factory will produce “gluten-free” and “GMO-free” pasta.

“Once the new facility is operational, Andriani plans to manufacture products for the North American market in Ontario instead of importing products from Italy,” the Ontario government said.

It added it will provide C$1.5m of support to the company’s investment through its regional development programme.

In the statement, Michele Andriani, the pasta group’s CEO and president, was quoted as saying: “In London, we found the premises to ground the next steps of our international development, which aims at increasing the potential of having a positive impact on people’s lives through food innovation: highly qualified and professional people, focus and investments on food innovation, sustainability and regenerative agricultural practices and overall a competitive agricultural and food business ecosystem.”

Just Food has approached the company to ask when the facility will start production.

Andriani is headquartered in the Italian city of Bari. According to its website, the company produces around 40,000 tons of pasta annually.

The group’s wholly gluten-free pasta factory is located in Gravia in Italy’s Puglia region. The company makes a variety of gluten-free food, such as “high-protein” pasta, gluten-free instant noodles, cereal pasta and pet food.
