Several Asian markets are reported to have restricted imports of Canadian poultry following confirmation of bird flu on two farms in British Columbia.
According to Reuters, South Korea has banned imports of Canadian chicks. Hong Kong and Taiwan have reportedly imposed trade restrictions on British Columbia poultry and poultry products. Japan has imposed restrictions on British Columbia chicks, as well as all Canadian poultry products.
The move comes after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced it was investigating an avian influenza outbreak at two farms in Fraser Valley. The two farms have been placed under quarantine and two additional farms in Fraser Valley were also quarantined the watchdog said in a statement on its website.
The Agriculture and Agri-Food did not respond immediately to requests for comment when approached by just-food.
