Australian food company Arnott’s has been criticised by a drug education group for introducing two lines of biscuits flavoured with alcoholic drinks.

The Australian Drug Foundation (ADF) said the Kahlua and Tia Maria-flavoured Tim Tam biscuits were a danger to children, reported Agence France Presse.

“These are Australia’s favourite chocolate biscuits and to spike them with alcohol flavouring will do us no good when we’ve already got a problem with under-age drinking in Australia,” said ADF’s Geoff Munro.  

“We don’t need to be introducing children to the taste of alcohol in this way,” he was quoted by AFP as saying.

Arnott’s, which is owned by Campbell Soup Co, defended its biscuits, saying they contain only 0.1% alcohol and are not marketed towards children.
