The Game Meats Company has pulled back from the danger of bankruptcy by catering for the Middle East demand for packaged goat meat, slaughtered in accordance with Islamic custom.

Established in 1996, the rural Victorian company was struggling at the beginning of the year after orders for ostrich meat fell.

Owner Robert Cavendon turned his hand to wild goat meat however and secured orders for goat meat at the Gulf Food 2001 Expo in Dubai.

Game Meats now exports about 100 tonnes of meat a month, all processed at its plant in Myrtleford, Victoria.
