Sales of Lurpak are expected to treble in Australia this year after the premium butter brand proved a success in its first year down under.

The butter was launched in Australian supermarket chain Woolworths last year, and the company said that last year’s sales of approximately 100 tons are expected to rise to 300 tons this year. It is also now listed with the Coles chain of stores.

“As Lurpak is three times as expensive as local butter, our customers doubted that our products stood a chance in Australia,” said Lurpak sales manager Lars Møller Henriksen. ”Nevertheless, the excellent taste has won them – and Australian consumers – over.”
