Riverina Food Group is working with the Australian Greenhouse Office in a bid to establish a Greenhouse Challenge logo for food products to act as an environmentally sound guarantee equivalent to the Heart Foundation’s tick of health approval.

Bryan Clark, executive office at Riverina, which is one of the largest regional producer and processor alliances in Australia, explained that the group’s 45 members would have to undergo an audit on energy use conducted by the Greenhouse Office. The audit will enable the businesses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and capture savings of 10-25% on their electricity bills.

As well as enabling more efficient business practice, the resulting logo “will identify the product as greenhouse friendly and make an impact on a sensitive market,” explained Clark.
