Labelling all GM foods is impractical and hypocritical, scientists at the Centre for the Application of Molecular Biology to International Agriculture revealed yesterday (22 January).

Adding further fuel to the labelling debate in Australia, Richard Jefferson, executive director of the Centre, argued that other food safety issues demand more attention than GM labelling. He believes that the use of herbicides and insecticides pose more of a threat to human health than genetically modified organisms.

Per Pinstrup-Andersen, director general of the International Food Policy Research Institute, added meanwhile that labelling all GM foods would raise serious administrative issues.
