Many Queensland fishermen are finding their exports have been severely reduced due to the deadly Sars virus which is affecting parts of Asia.
Exports of Queensland seafood to Hong Kong and other parts of China have fallen from a usual amount of 15 tonnes a week to almost zero, reported the Courier-Mail.
The lack of demand is believed to be due to the fact that many people in Hong Kong and other affected areas are choosing to stay at home rather than eating out in restaurants.
In the northern town of Cairns, seafood exports fell A$1.5m (US$908,000) last week, forcing some exporters and distributors to temporarily shut down.
