The US National Milk Producers Federation has spoken out against a
recently-announced free trade agreement between Australia and the United

Next February, the two governments will be entering trade negotiations, with the goal of completing a bilateral free trade pact by 2004.

In a statement, the NMPF expressed strong reservations about the prospects for the proposed pact and said that a free trade agreement with Australia would offer no net benefit to US agriculture, undermine the Bush Administration’s efforts to open other global markets and take focus away from fighting against current dairy industry protectionism in markets such as Europe and Japan.
