Australian supermarket giant Woolworth’s has this week completed a buyout of rural grocery store Humpty Doo Super Fresh.

Woolworths NT-SA operations manager Steve Greentree revealed that the retailer is set to spend A$1m to upgrade the store: “We’re doing a full refurbishment at the moment. That includes putting in new refrigeration, new checkouts and an overall decor change.”

Situated in a rural area, Woolworths anticipates that visits from nearby consumers will increase with the refurbishment, and has employed an extra 40 staff members to work in the store. Greentree commented: “It’s an area that’s growing so we see it as an opportunity. And sometimes in rural areas a lot of customers are shopping in other areas. But by investing in equipment and creating a better operation we can get the people who are shopping in […] other areas to stay here.”
