Belgian confectioner Leonidas has reinvested a total of €7.5m (US$6.9m) in its Slovak subsidiary Deva, which it took it over in August 2000 for €2.1m.

The company’s trade and marketing director, Annick van Overstraeten, revealed that the firm now employs 157 people, down from a total of 522 in 1998.

The production capacity of the Trebisov, eastern Slovakia plant is as large as that of the Leonidas plants in Belgium, Overstraeten added.
