Beyond Meat has named Honest Tea founder and CEO Seth Goldman as chairman, while former McDonald's CEO Don Thompson has joined the plant-based protein company's board.
Goldman, who already served on the Beyond Meat board, founded Honest Tea, which is now owned by Coca Cola Co., in 1998. He will "split time" between his responsibilities at Coca Cola and Beyond Meat.
"Given his tremendous capabilities and expertise and our shared passion for the Beyond Meat mission, I've long sought Seth's greater involvement and am absolutely thrilled to have him join the team as our executive chairman," Ethan Brown, founder and CEO of Beyond Meat, said.
Thompson takes a board seat at Beyond Meat after 25 years at McDonald's, including three as CEO and president. He left the fast food giant in March.
"We are delighted and truly honoured to have Don join our board," Brown said. "Don's expertise and leadership is invaluable as we seek to deliver on our promise of enabling consumers to eat what they love, without any downsides. We look forward to working with Don to bring our plant-based meats to consumers here in the United States and abroad."
"Today's customers want great taste, choice and variety in the foods they eat," Thompson said. "More and more, every day, the traditional favourites of beef, fowl and fish are being augmented with additional plant protein sources to satisfy this new taste demand.”
