Allergy alert – Undeclared gluten in Pamela’s brand  of  “wheat free & gluten free” ultra chocolate brownie mix and gourmet pancake and baking mix


The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is advising consumers with sensitivities to gluten not to consume Pamela’s brand Ultra Chocolate Brownie Mix and Gourmet Pancake and Baking Mix.  These products may contain gluten that is not declared on the label.


This alert is of particular concern to those individuals who suffer adverse reactions to the specific proteins (gluten) of wheat, rye, barley, oats and triticale.


These products are from Pamela’s Products, Inc. in San Francisco, California and distributed nationally by various importers.
Pamela’s brand
Ultra Chocolate Brownie Mix is sold in 454g package with a code of MAY2502 and a UPC of 0 93709 30030 4, and
Gourmet Pancake and Baking Mix is sold in 680g package with a code of JUN1202 and a UPC of 0 93709
30010 6.


These products are being voluntarily recalled by Pamela’s Products, Inc.

Allergy alert – Presence of undeclared egg in The Lovin’ Oven Bake Shoppe brand and Homestyle brand  fruit pies


The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning consumers allergic to egg protein not to consume The Lovin’ Oven Bake Shoppe brand and the Homestyle brand fruit pies listed below. The affected products contain egg protein that is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals allergic to egg protein.


The Lovin’ Oven Bake Shoppe brand fruit pie varieties affected by the recall are apple, blueberry and cherry  packaged in both 600 and 1200 g sizes; and peach, raspberry, rhubarb strawberry, bumbleberry and raspberry rhubarb in the 600 g size.  Also affected by this recall are Homestyle “No Sugar Added” brand cherry, apple and blueberry pies in the 600 g size. All codes are
affected.


The Great Atlantic & Pacific Co. of Canada is voluntarily recalling these products. These products are only sold at “The Barn” stores in Ontario.


The consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg protein. There has been one reported illness associated with the consumption of these products. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
