Despite massive efforts to contain the recent outbreak of bird flu in Fraser Valley, British Columbia, officials have said the disease has spread further west and has now been found on a farm in Surrey, far from the original outbreak.

The latest case brings the number of infected commercial poultry farms to 29 since the outbreak began in February, reported the Associated Press.

Dr Cornelius Kiley, chief BC veterinarian for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, described the latest case as “a worry”, and said the disease had also been found in several backyard flocks.
