McCain Foods has further publicised its commitment to the removal of trans fat with a full-page newspaper ad. The large New York Times announcement trumpeted the Canadian company’s plan to cease using trans fat, just as the city plans to disallow trans fat in restaurant foods. “Zero grams trans fat is good for consumers and for business,” reads the ad.
The world’s largest producer of frozen French fries began the changeover to zero grams trans fat in 1993, and has followed up with several product launches. All McCain’s retail French fry and potato products contain zero grams trans fat as do over 50 of its foodservice sector products. All of its foodservice potato products will be trans fat free within one year.
