Canadian dairy group Saputo is to close a milk and cream processing plant in Ontario in a bid to boost efficiency.

The closure of the plant, slated for the end of October, will affect 190 employees. Saputo insisted yesterday (30 March) that around 120 staff will be offered alternative positions within the company.

Saputo is also planning to consolidate all its distribution activities in the Toronto area into one distribution centre, which will be located in Vaughan, Ontario. These changes should be completed at the end of September.

“These decisions are part of the company’s continual analysis of its overall activities and the implementation of measures aimed at improving its operational efficiency,” Saputo said.
