Canadian dairy co-operative Agropur has acquired US functional foods producer Main Street Ingredients.
While no financial details were disclosed, the operation will continue under the name Main Street Ingredients and will be overseen by the current president, Bill Schmitz. He will report to Agropur’s vice-president of sales for cheese and functional products Sylvain Melançon.
“Main Street Ingredients is in direct line with our strategic plan and will allow us to develop that specific niche”, Melançon said yesterday (22 December).
Agropur’s CEO Pierre Claprood added: “This most recent acquisition represents a great fit with our current operations and will allow us to keep building a strong foundation for continued growth.”
This is the second acquisition in the US for Agropur this month. On 3 December, the firm announced it had bought Iowa-based cheese producer Green Meadows Foods. The Iowa facility will now be part of Agropur arm Trega Foods.
