Canadian frozen desserts company CoolBrands International is suing Weight Watchers International of the US on grounds that the latter has violated the terms of an agreement between the two.

The suit follows one filed by Weight Watchers last week in which the US group argued that CoolBrands was violating a licence pact by continuing to sell products carrying its name following the failure of the two companies to agree terms to extend the pact. Weight Watchers instead entered into a new agreement with Wells’ Dairy.

In a statement released on its website, CoolBrands listed its complaints and stated that: “these actions and false statements were an attempt to impair CoolBrands’ ability to sell its popular and successful Smart Ones brand of ice cream and frozen novelties, and damage CoolBrands’ goodwill and reputation with customers, investors and the general public.”
