Officials from the USDA have determined that a Tyson Foods plant in Canada may resume exporting beef to the US.
Exports to the US from the Lakeside Packers plant in Brooks, Alberta were stopped earlier this month due to food safety concerns. The plant is capable of slaughtering one million head of cattle annually, with almost half of its production destined for the US.
Last month there were three reports of the E.coli bacteria being found in US hamburgers that had an indirect link to Lakeside Packers. The beef in the burgers originated at the plant but had since been further processed in smaller US factories, reported Reuters.
The plant may resume exporting meat produced on or after 23 November.
