The Chilean government has passed a bill to create a national certification system for organic agricultural produce, according to an announcement from the Agriculture Ministry.


According to a report by Dow Jones, the certification system is expected to facilitate organic exports to to key markets such as the EU, the US and Japan, where strict organic criteria are laid down.


Only producers registered with the government accreditation system and have met organic production criteria will be allowed to label their products as “organic,” “ecological” or “biological”.
