Earth Policy Institute president Lester Brown is confident China’s can ensure food supplies in the face of the new global food security challenge, reports the People’s Daily newspaper.
Brown, who delivered a speech at the invitation of Peking University, said the quadrupling in size of China’s economy demonstrated the China’s extraordinary ability to deal with economic difficulties, the paper said.
Poverty and malnutrition have been eliminated to a great extent. However, it will be a challenge for China to continue this current development.
Brown believed that the western traditional development pattern could not help China realise this object, and China must development a new economic pattern, which should be both environmentally sustainable and in accordance with the current situation in China.
