The second batch of US frozen chicken imports has tested positive for potentially lethal E-coli bacteria in less than a month, according to Chinese quarantine officials in southern Guangdong province.

According to local newspaper China Daily, authorities discovered that 24 tonnes of frozen chicken imported were contaminated, and that the chicken was due to be destroyed after the US exporter had been notified. The exporter was not named.

Another 24 tonnes of frozen chicken that formed part of the same batch of US imports was found to be contaminated with the bacteria on 11 December.
