The Commission of the European Union has lifted a temporary ban imposed on imports of Chinese poultry meat during the bird flu scare. Exports were resumed from Shandong and Shanghai on 25 May.


Chinese government welcomed the decision, pointing out that it attatches great importance to trade relations with the EU. “This decision is in the best interests of both China and Europe,” added Gao Yan, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC).

The EU has also approved the export registration of 14 poultry meat processing plants that have been recommended by China.
