Chinese meat firm Zhongpin has started production at its new chilled and frozen pork facility in Yongcheng City as it looks to boost its sales in the central and eastern regions of the country.

The company said today (5 January) that production at the site in China’s Henan province kicked off on Saturday. The US$17m facility takes Zhongpin’s annual production capacity for chilled and frozen pork to 498,760 metric tonnes.

Zhongpin CEO Xianfu Zhu said the plant would help the business “rapidly increase” its market share in the east of Henan province and in central and eastern China as a whole.

“There is a strong demand for high-quality pork products in these regions due to their large and growing population bases,” he said.
