Greece-based savoury snacks specialist company Chipita has refused to confirm or deny reports it plans to build a new plant for its products in Slovakia.

The company told just-food “it is interested in many markets [including Slovakia] and is constantly looking for opportunities” but added: “However, it is not in a position to make any specific announcement at this moment.”

In what appears to be a leak of early plans, the weekly Slovak business magazine Trend has reported that Chipita plans to invest EUR63m in a new manufacturing plant in the Trnava Region, near the capital Bratislava, producing more than 72,000 tonnes of its successful 7 Days range of croissants and crackers per year, generating more than 600 jobs.

According to Trend, the plant is expected to be operational by the summer of 2019.

Chipita manufactures its products in 11 plants in Greece, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Russia, Turkey and India. It also operates through strategic partnerships with local firms a further seven manufacturing plants in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia.

The company’s international brands include 7 Days flour-based products, both sweet and savoury.
