Canada-based tuna processor Clover Leaf Holdings is following the lead of its sister company Bumble Bee Foods in filing for bankruptcy.

A filing on the website of Canada’s Office for the Superintendent of Bankruptcy noted that the Ontario Superior Court of Justice has appointed Alvarez & Marsal Canada of Toronto as monitor for the proceedings.

Clover Leaf, also known as Connors Bros, is the Canadian arm of US-based Bumble Bee, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November amid criminal fines and lawsuits related to a price-fixing case, which had also implicated other seafood firms StarKist and Chicken of the Sea.

Bumble Bee’s former chief executive, Chris Lischewski, was found guilty of the price-fixing charges earlier this week by a San Francisco jury, which also concluded he conspired with StarKist and Chicken of the Sea to fix prices.

Clover Leaf supplies canned tuna under its namesake brand and also the Brunswick and Beach Cliff labels. The company also trades as Clover Leaf Seafoods Company and KCR Fisheries.
