Carrefour is reported to be negotiating an alliance in Colombia where it posted first-half turnover of EUR371m (US$ 475.28m).
Interviewed by the Portafolio business newspaper, the director of the French group’s Colombian subsidiary, Franck Pierre, revealed that discussions are taking place with the country’s second largest supermarket chain, Carulla Vivero. However, other groups are talking to the Colombian company too. “We’re waiting to know who has come out on top,” Pierre said.
Carulla Vivero has a total of 157 outlets trading under four different names.
Carrefour’s French rival Casino is already a shareholder in Colombia’s leading supermarket chain, Exito.
