In a statement, family-owned Compaxo said it is aiming to “strengthen our position within our core activities”.
Specifically, the company outlined the potential to grow in product areas including processed meats and liver sausage products.
Compaxo also pointed to the benefits of greater scale, including in logistics, product development, product portfolio and packaging.
Gepo, founded in 1958, developed from a traditional sausage-making business in Hoofddorp into a specialist producer of processed meat products.
Kroon traces its roots to 1870. It began as a butcher’s shop in Groningen, eventually growing into a national processed meat brand.
Kroon has been part of Gepo since since 2006.
Like Compaxo, Gepo is also a family-owned business. The transaction is subject to required consultation and approval procedures, as well as the completion of the remaining agreements.
Compaxo was established in 1896 in the Dutch city of Gouda.
The company, owned by the van der Post family, focuses on pork processing, cured meat products, and plant-based alternatives.
It has manufacturing sites at Gouda and further east in Zevenaar.
The latest move builds on Compaxo’s April acquisition of Pigarné, a specialised piglet slaughterhouse, as reported by local news outlet Boerenbusiness.
