Conagra Brands has confirmed the US food major plans to close a plant in Milwaukee inherited from its purchase of Sandwich Bros. a few years ago.

A spokesperson for Conagra said employees at the facility had already been told of the company’s intention to close the site, adding in a statement: “We informed employees at our Milwaukee, Wisconsin, facility one year ago that we intended to close the facility in the spring of 2021. We made this decision following a thorough analysis of our overall facility footprint and the need to operate as competitively as possible.”

Media reports suggested 190 workers will be affected ahead of the scheduled closure date in April for the plant located in Milwaukee's north-west side.

New York-listed Conagra, which owns brands such as Hunt's ketchup and Duncan Hines baking mixes, announced late in 2017 it would acquire local peer Sandwich Bros. of Wisconsin for an undisclosed sum. Sandwich Bros. produces frozen breakfast and flatbread sandwiches.
