Retail prices of bread and bakery products may rise by as much as 25% in the next two months due to high energy costs, the Czech Entrepreneurs Association of Bakers and Confectioners has suggested.
Rises in the price of natural gas and electricity in the Czech Republic, 25% and 13.5% respectively, coupled with this years long winter, have caused some bakeries to claim an increase of up to 60% in their spending on energy.
According to a report in the Czech News Digest, bakery groups are warning that a hike in retail prices is now almost inevitable.
Baking products prices in the country have not been raised since November 2003.
