Retailers in the Czech Republic are confident that two new cases of BSE detected in the last week will not dent beef sales.

A poll of retailers conducted by CTK indicates that retailers feel they have little to fear. Sales fell in June last year after the country discovered its first case of BSE, but demand did not fall in response to a further case reported a few months later.

Delvita marketing director Miguel van Bussel said consumers had confidence that supermarkets only sold safe meat.
