In a bid to prevent the further spread of foot and mouth disease, Czech officials have placed tighter import checks at the west Bohemia border crossings. The country implemented a ban last week on British imports of any raw meat or products not processed by heat, added Jitka Blahutova from the Customs Directorate. 


Jan Dvorak, a veterinary surgeon checking imports at the Rozvadov crossing, warned that any goods for import without the required veterinary certificates would be returned to their original countries.
