Scandinavian dairy group Arla Foods is to launch a low-fat organic milk that it says combines the taste of its semi-skimmed milk with fat content approaching that of its healthiest products.

Arla said its Harmony Mille milk contains 0.9% fat, 40% less than the “Light” milk it markets throughout Denmark, which contains 1.5% fat. Arla is hoping the new milk will prove as popular as the “mini-milk” it introduced in 2001, which contains 0.5% fat.

The milk will be launched in Denmark on 21 January. “We wanted to develop a product with the same taste as Light milk but with less fat,” said Arla Food’s Jakob Noergaard. He said the new milk would be suitable for children. Danish authorities have recommended that children under three should drink milk with lower fat levels than those contained in the low-fat Light Milk.
